An Anganwadi center in a village is one of the essential most institutions in a rural setting to ensure a healthy, educated and aware child and mother. However, this village in Bisungarh district of Jharkhand, home to over at least 61 mothers worry that their children are denied the benefits of anagwadi such as vaccinations, basic education, and nutrition. “There should be an Anganwadi center here so that our children can read and write properly”, opines a worried mother of the village.
Maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Jharkhand is 261 deaths per one lakh live births, which is much higher than the national average of 212 deaths. 41 children out of 1000, born in Jharkhand, don’t live to see a tomorrow. But women like Manju Kisku, who are dedicated to demanding better accountability and responsibilities from their district’s government officials to ensure a safe, just and equal society through the power of media.
