Tribal Community Denied the Right to Education

As we kick off "Pass Ya Fail", our campaign on Right to Education in India, this week we bring you compelling evidence on the lack of access to education in the country. Many of our community correspondents have reported on the lack of proper buildings for their children to study in. Today, Community Correspondent Basanti Hunni Purti reports on the dilapidated state of the school building in Merumgutu village, Jharkhand. For the past three years the building has slowly been taken over by trees and wilderness. The doors haven't been opened to the children for as much time. "Educated people are able to send their children to missionary schools, but others' children continue to play around in the fields with nowhere to go" says Beirtha Mundri, a parent who cannot afford to send her children to a private school. If education has been made a fundamental right in India, then every child regardless of where she lives should have access to it. You can make this possible. Call to Action: Please call Pitamber Rai, Block Education Officer on 09471382310 and ask him to start the school immediately by repairing the school appointing teachers and enrolling the children.
