Sanitation Crisis: Education Going Down The Toilet

Toilets play a crucial role in the proper functioning of the school. VV-PACS Community Correspondent Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal from Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh reports on the impact of missing toilet infrastructure in a government primary school in Argampur village. The toilet in the school exists but is in an absolutely unusable condition. For most of the boys at school a corner of the school playground is one of the options while the girls have to compromise with the fields outside the school. ‘From the past 3 years we don’t have a toilet in the school’ says Pratima, a young student at the school. Parents are reluctant in sending their daughters to school if there are no separate clean toilet facilities for them. Education for children can be fostered by something as basic as clean sanitation facilities. Call to Action: You can help by calling District Magistrate, Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh on 05522222206 and ask her to take action. About the Partnership: The Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) Programme and Video Volunteers have come together to create the Community Correspondents Network. The videos generated by the network will be able to highlight voices from the margins, providing skills to social communicators to provide advocacy tools to community based organizations.
