Imagine having your village and land flooded for the construction of a dam.  Imagine no compensation, house or land being provided in return.  Imagine standing up for your rights to only be imprisoned by the authorities.  There is no need to imagine for this is the reality of residents from Kakrana Village, Madhya Pradesh.  We need your cooperation to change this horrible reality now.   Call to Action: Help the people affected by the flooding caused by the dam, to be provided with agricultural and domestic land to live on.  Please call:   Collector, Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh, Tel: +919425188061   VV-PACS Kurban Damor interviews residents from Kakrana Village, Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh affected by the flooding caused by the Sardar Sarovar dam.   The Sardar Sarovar Dam project started in 1979.  It has been in the midst of controversy ever since.  The World Bank who initially funded the project withdrew in 1994 due to all the malpractices of the project organisers. The dam alone displacedover 200,000 people in the three states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. Over 56 percent of the people affected by the dam are from the tribal community(Adivasi).   In 1994 water started filling up the dam, and by 2006,26 villages were submerged in water including Kakrana Village.   Until today, the people from these villages have not been relocated to a safe place.   Having spoken to the Collector in charge about this fiasco, Shurbhan, a resident affected by the flooding explains, “Today he is saying that we have been given land in Gujarat, when we went Gujarat and enquired about it, the officer there told us that we don’t have any land there.  We are ready to acquire the land which was given to us on paper even today, but first our state government should acquire it, after that we will settle down there.    40 people from 26 villages of Alirajpur have been arrested for protesting the injustice on 30 December 2013, and until today only some have been released.  These people were cultivating the same land which was given to them by the state government, and from there they were arrested and put into jail.   Today, you can help Shurbhan and the community achieve this.Help the residents of Kakrana Village affected by the flooding caused by the Sardar Sarovar dam get agricultural and domestic landNOW!    Watch more videos like this by clicking on this link.   About the Partnership: The Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) Programme and Video Volunteers have come together to create the Community Correspondents Network.
