Ground Report: Flimsy conditions of a government school in Uttar Pradesh

The primary school in Puraina village, which houses 134 students, is a ramshackle block with no boundary wall. The toilet — built a long time ago — is no longer in a working condition either. Students wander about the campus to relieve themselves, VV-PACS Community Correspondent Brahmajith reports from Siddharth Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh on the inadequate conditions of the only primary school of his village.

CALL FOR ACTION: Please call the Education Department of Domariyaganj block of Siddharth Nagar district at +91-9353004121, and ask that a boundary wall be built around the school and toilets be repaired.

The northern state of Uttar Pradesh is the most populous one in India. Its 75 districts include some of the most desperate and poverty-ridden across the country. In a pinch, it often reflects the spate of many government schemes that are aimed at the alleviation of the poor. CC Brahmjith’s report from Siddharth Nagar is also reflective of how the Right to Eduction Act has been implemented in various other parts of India.
