Suberam Yadav lost his young school-going son in a road accident, one that should not have happened.

The accident took place on a 7 km long road between Saraipalli and Gerwani villages, a route now frequented by trucks, diggers and other heavy vehicles. The road was originally constructed under the Prime Minister's Village Road Scheme in 2001-2 to ostensibly help connect rural areas with markets and other cities. 12 years later, it has become a death trap for local residents as trucks from nearby factories weighing up to 50 tonnes frequent this road at all hours of the day and night.

With mining projects sprawled across Chattisgarh, residents of affected villages find themselves jostling for space and facilities with big industries. The Residents of Gadgaon are now trying to open a dialogue with factory owners to have the road fixed.
