70-year-old Kairi Bodra stopped receiving her old age pension 4 years ago. Alone, Kairi has to take care of all the household work and monthly expenses. She sustains herself by making brooms as her old age restricts her from doing anything else.
When she inquired about the pension, she was told that the money has not been disbursed from the state and assured that as soon as it arrives, she'll be given her pension. It has been 4 years now but she has not received anything since. Coming back empty handed every time, she stopped going to the pension office after a while as she could not afford to waste money on simply travelling back and forth.
Community correspondent Basanti Hunni Purty is campaigning on the ground to ensure Kairi's pension is resumed and deposited in her account directly so she does not have to travel a long distance to receive her pension. Basanti has appealed to the Block Development Officer of Bandgaon for helping Kairi receive her old age pension regularly again.
