One Hundred and twenty-eight students who had applied for the Anganwadi helper’s post were cheated by Annapurna Youth Society in Baliya Village of Jharkhand.

Anganwadis were started by the Indian government in 1975 as part of the Integrated Child Development Services program to combat child hunger and malnutrition. These centres provide supplementary nutrition, non-formal pre-school education, nutrition and health education, immunisation, health check-up and referral services.

On 17 April 2014, these students were asked to pay amounts ranging from  Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 4,000 as fees for the training course. However, all of them received receipts for just Rs. 2,250.

Community correspondent Mary Nisha Hansda interviewed the cheated students and their relatives who pointed out that Dr. R.N.Pal along with the Anganwadi Assistant and Helper had received the money from them. They had even taken money from a physically disabled girl although training was free for the disabled and widows as per the prospectus.

The video calls for action to be taken against the guilty so that the money cheated off them could be returned.
