Ramavati Devi and her family have been victims of caste violence for a long time. She along with her family in Bihar is being harassed by those belonging to the upper caste. Their house was burned by these people; they have time and again abused, threatened and beaten up members of her family. Even their children going to school have not been spared of threats to their lives. According to a report by Human Rights Watch, "Dalits and indigenous people continue to face discrimination, exclusion, and acts of communal violence. Laws and policies adopted by the Indian government provide a strong basis for protection but are not being faithfully implemented by local authorities.” Ramavati’s family have approached District Officer and the Police station to get help, but they are ignoring this matter since they have been bribed to do nothing. Community Correspondent Gyanti Kumari seeks justice for this family so that they can live their life in peace. |
