Storm-hit village awaits compensation since five months

On a sunny Saturday, Harilal Yadav was idling around in the verandah of his mud hosue when he and his fellow villagers faced the wrath of nature. A strong rain-storm hit his village, Sarhuwa in Jharkhand and within 30 minutes left a trail of destruction behind. The village wore an apocolyptic look with broken houses, dead cattle and bewildered citizens. "Around 20 houses collapsed and more lost roofs of their homes," an elder of the village tells Mahima Bhengra, our Community Correspondent from Jharkhand.

According to the residents, a few politicians had come to examine the damage in the area and made promises of compensation. Their requests 

"Some big people had come to the village. Manoj Singh, a BJP leader and Alok Chaurasia, an MLA, were few of the people to come here. Even the newspaper carried the news, yet nothing has happened till now," tells Harilal.
