Our Community Correspondent Maya Khodve reports from Kadavaipada, Nashik where a community of farmers has been waiting for over 40 years for a dam to be built in their region. Despite having a river, the farmers say the water is not enough for them to cultivate crops. The administration promised them a dam many decades ago. Some field surveys were also done. But since then, for almost 40 years now, the dam is still under construction. Many families have moved to nearby cities in search of better earning opportunities. The migration has also affected kids education. 

 

Monsoons are the only saving grace. But once the season is over, it is hard to find even clean drinking water. Because of mismanagement of the water, most of it flows and irrigates fields of the neighbouring state Gujarat, allege the farmers. This area of Beed in Nashik is also very rich in flora and fauna. However, lack of water has led to death of wildlife or has forced them to migrate elsewhere.
