The Community Correspondent (CC) Vinod Wankhede from Buldana, Maharashtra, in this video is speaking to Sanket Jaidev Wankhede, a final year Horticulture student who chose to become a youtuber in this lock down period.
When every school, colleges, organisations and markets were closed due to lock down, he came upon an idea by watching a few YouTube channels. His village ‘Kherda’ is a small one with a population of 3000, and he is familiar with the traditional techniques the farmers use for agriculture. With his horticultural background, and his only tool the smartphone, he started making educational videos on modern agriculture and uploaded them to YouTube. His channel is called the ‘Digital Agro Academy’ and it has episodes for students, farmers and farm enthusiasts about techniques of modern agriculture.
Sanket mentioned that knowing the modern and advanced ways of farming is important because the farmers with their traditional knowledge, in this age of climate change, are always getting low yield, hence less income. He cites examples of nations such as Israel that being a tiny nation still it is able to sustain their population as well as export grains, due to the use of modern techniques of agriculture.
The subscribers of his channel are slowly increasing, he is hopeful that he will be able to help himself and his family financially through this channel and also work towards his bigger aim of spreading the techniques of modern agriculture amongst the farmers.
