The Indian Independence movement had various components and one of the major ones was the Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauz). While Mahatma Gandhiji was preaching Non Violent ways of agitation, Subhash Chandra Bose was encouraging a full scale war, with The Indian National Army.
The seed of the Indian National Army (INA) was planted in Singapore when Major Fujiwara of the Imperial Japanese Army addressed the 45 thousand Indian POWs of the British Indian Army. The Japanese took the Indian soldiers as their brothers and mobilised them to fight the British.
Azad Hind Fauz or the INA became a powerful military force backed by the Japanese and they had a Government-in-Exile. The INA regiments, in 1944 reached up to Manipur for their famous ‘March to Delhi’ campaign but it was not successful.
