Gayatri, a student at the Mitgayi Girl's Hostel in Chhattisgarh has many chores to complete on a daily basis apart from studying. One of these includes walking half a kilometre each day to fetch water. Community Correspondents talks to her and other

Compared to many other hostels in rural areas of the country, the one in Mitgayi fares much better in terms of the facilities it provides the students. The lack of a proper source of water is however a glaring oversight on the part of the school administration.

There is an overhead tank as well as proper pipes in place but since 2008 a kink in the system has left the entire hostel without water. Luckily for the students, the neighbouring secondary school has a good supply of water. The girls go anywhere between 6 and 7 times a day to get the water they need to bathe, wash the dishes, cook and drink.

You wouldn't send your children to a hostel without water, so why should these girls go to one. Please make the following call.
