Rajkumar works part time as a salesagent for the Life Insurance Corporation of India, and dedicates the rest of his time to traveling across villages conducting meetings to raise awareness about the rights of forest dwellers like his own Gorkha community. Often confused with the famed warriors of the British Raj in India, or to be of Nepali origin, the Gorkhasof North Bengal have been embroiled in a long, bitter struggle for recognition of their Indian identity and right to land.A father to two college going children, Rajkumar’s deepest desire is to leave behind a world worth inhabiting. He is a core member of Uttar Banga Ban Jan Shram Jeevi Manch (Himalayan Forest Villagers’ Organization) and is a resident of Naxalbari, a beautiful village near Darjeeling, at the foothills of the Himalayas.
