Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district has a village, Hirri, nestled within it under Dobe panchayat. Nearly 65 families live here in Hirri. One day all of a sudden it began to rain heavily for nearly two hours. Many of the villagers here have lost their crop because of this rain.
'The rainwater gushed in, took my crops and flowed away.'
'The water flowed down into my land and took my crop away. All the seed I had sown has been destroyed.'
The crops that are cultivated here in Hirri village are minor millet, gram and corn. These farmers cannot grow anything else because of the landlocked location they dwell in. Even these limited crop that the villagers had cultivated have been destroyed.
'We are clueless about any solution as the landlords blame us for destroying these crops. We can't find any alternative resource.'
'We are stressed wondering how to sustain our families. We don't know what to sow now.'
