No MGNREGA jobs for women in Bhoyar, UP

"Women don't have the opportunity to earn a living doing men's work."
"When I ask for work they tell me that I cannot do those jobs."
"If we do not earn then how are we expected to make a living."

Under the MGNREGA scheme provision has been made for 100 days of guaranteed work every year. But in Basti district, Bahaddurpur block's Bhoyar village, 40 women are helpless without work since the past 3 years. Some have not been paid for as long as 4 years while some have never got any work.

'Our crop has been poor and we have a long way to go with our expenses. We aren't able to source food without money. Above all this we aren't getting work from MGNREGA too. I am constantly worried as to how will I be able to support my family', says Sita Devi.

'I do not have any work to do. We do not get any work under the MGNERGA scheme. If we do get work to do, then the task is so big, that it gets difficult to complete within the time frame. Work should be distributed and divided into achievable tasks. Our agricultural produce has been very bad for us to sustain our lives. I do not know how to manage our food if we do not get work and earn money', adds Shanti Devi.

CC Vinay appeals viewers to help his cause by calling the Block Development Officer of Bahaddurpur on 9889029324 and asking him to provide the women of Bhoyar with work under MGNREGA as per the government mandate.
