No pension, No ration, No one listening.

Old Age Pension is for people who are over 60 years old and have Below Povery Line (BPL) cards.  They are given 400 rupees every month.  But beneficiaries from Chilga panchayat are not getting this.  For those individuals who are not under the Old Age Pension Plan and cannot take care of themselves or have no one else to look after them are normally provided rations under the Annapurna Yogna scheme.  But this also has stopped in the last year.   The old citizens of Chilga panchayat are therefore struggling to make ends meet, having to labour daily to earn a few rupees to feed themselves.  STOP THIS INJUSTICE NOW!

Call to Action:  Help the elderly resident of Chilga panchayat receive their pension.  Call:

Kuldeep Kujur, Block Development Officer, Pirtand, Tel: +91771321321

VV-Correspondent Aparna Marandi reports from Karando village, Pirtand block, Giridih, Jharkhand where residents such as Samoli Devi are not receiving theirOld Age Pension.

Elderly residents survive by working or selling firewood even though their bodies are tired and aged.  Some do receive their pensions but it is neither on time nor regular and they are asked for cash to receive it as Panmuni clarifies:

“We do not get our pension every month.  They give us it after 3 or 4 months.  Even after 3 or 4 months, they do not give the full amount with our accounts.  It seems they are taking some of our money.  We even have to pay to get our pension in the first place.  The one who gives us information takes 50 rupees each.  Someone else takes 30 rupees and likewise.”

On top of this they are being denied the benefits of the Annapoorna Yojna scheme.  The Annapurna Yojna scheme provides 10 kg of free food grains a month to senior citizens who do not have any other means to feed themselves.

Samoili, explains her predicament, “The Government is not giving any rice or money.  It has been 15 months, we are not getting anything.  It is very difficult now.  The village head says he has sent our names.  He said he will inform us when he receives our papers for our money.”

How will they survive?  Your help is needed.  Call the number above andtell the Block Development Officer to do his duty to support the elderly citizens of Chilga panchayat now. They have tried to ask the village head to no success, we must act now.  Community videos like this have made huge differences in people’s lives.  For instance VV-Correspondent Anupama Sathy managed to get 27 old aged pensioners their pension. She could not have done it without your support.

This is why we need your support.  Please call the number above to ensure that Samoli Devi and the other elderly citizens of Chilga panchayat receive the pension they are entitled too.
